Privacy Policy

Fair Witness is an independent, reader-supported publisher. We sell nothing, run no advertising networks, and carry no affiliate links, so we have no commercial reason to collect more about you than we need. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated June 2026.

What we collect

Usage analytics. Like most sites, we measure how our pages are read so we know which explainers are useful and where readers get lost. This includes pages visited, referring links, approximate (city-level) location derived from your IP address, and general device and browser information. We collect this through PostHog and Google Tag Manager.

Newsletter email. If — and only if — you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you give us so we can send it. We deliver email through Resend. We do not buy, rent, or scrape email lists.

We do not ask for, or intentionally collect, sensitive health information about you. Please do not send us your medical history; we are a publisher, not a clinic.

Why we collect it

To understand what content serves readers, to improve accuracy and coverage, to keep the site running and secure, and to deliver the newsletter you requested. That is the whole list.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar identifiers for analytics and basic site function. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work. We honor your browser’s tracking preferences where technically supported.

Who processes data for us

We rely on a handful of established service providers, each of which processes data under its own privacy terms: Vercel (hosting), Sanity (content management), PostHog and Google Tag Manager (analytics), and Resend (newsletter delivery). We do not sell or share your information with data brokers, advertisers, or ad networks, because we run none.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email. You can control cookies through your browser. And you can ask us to access or delete the personal information we hold about you by writing to corrections@readfairwitness.com. We will respond to reasonable requests as required by applicable law.

Children

This site covers research compounds and is intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page as our practices change and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here rather than emailed, so it is worth checking back if this matters to you.
